Once again....

It's been a while since I wrote anything here.....but here I am. Let me just try bringing up to speed.

2011 - I moved to Dubai...a new job in a company who expected me to live and breath it 24/7. Never have I been so stressed not knowing when I would get a call on the weekends to ask about the Brand that I was managing, about the sales & its performance and which store/mall I was personally overlooking to check all is well!

The silver lining was that I got to travel 2 new countries - United States of America and Italy! Even though it was a business trip I did manage to do some sight seeing and it was wonderful!

2012 - The year began with hectic business travel (Buying) to Frankfurt, Germany....just a day after my Birthday. Even though I had visited Germany way back in 1997, I hadn't been to Frankfurt. The early morning walk down by the River Main....down the bridge festooned with many love locks....it was lovely but at the same time felt it would have been much better if I was with a friend. I also climbed right up to the top of the winding stairs in Frankfurt Cathedral from where I too this shot. It was worth the climb!

During the EID holidays, took a road trip to Oman with an Irish man and a Singaporean lady. It was so much fun! Can't believe reaching a hotel middle of the night and that too a quaint one which was not that expensive only driving away as the Irish found it too expensive for his taste to spend for a few hours! But again...no complain. It was a blissful 3 days trip and I feel the other two too enjoyed the trip as much as I did!

Then in November taking advantage of the Al Hajra holiday just before the weekend booked myself for a Group Trip to Jordan a country I was eager to visit to see one of the Wonders of the World, Petra! I also got to see a friend and his family, a Jordanian who befriended us way back when we were college students in Delhi. It's always lovely to see a familiar face. Who would have thought that after all these years I would visit his country and see him and his family?!

I was also busy looking for another job even thinking of relocating to far flung places like Singapore!

2013 - This was a year of learning I can say on hindsight. In January, I got to travel to Lebanon, a country full of history and many civilisations. The Phoenicians were here and the Romans too. Earliest civilisation dates more than 7000 years back! The ruins of Baalbeck, Anjar, Byblos, Tyre, Sidon....were all so awesome!

Then I left my job. Couldn't take it anymore and by June I was finally out. This time I decided to do my own thing. And I decided to do it right here in the Middle East all by myself! The registration of a company and getting a new visa....the paperworks....I did it all! I also engaged a friend even though her charges were pretty high as I just like her creative side for getting my website done. It's been quite an experience. The website is still under construction as of today!

I also travelled extensively in India visiting places that I have always wanted to go. First to the Andamans right after Cyclone Phailin passed by. I nearly cancelled my flight but thankfully the Cyclone passed away without much damage. The Andaman islands are still untouched. Out of about 532 islands or so, only a few are inhabited. I would love to go back again.

Finally in November I travelled to God's Own Country, Kerala. I travelled extensively using the public transport, the State Bus. It wasn't easy as I was lugging 2 suitcases filled to the brim and an equally heavy handbag on my shoulders! On one of my trips, the bus I was travelling in broke down and we were asked to get off and catch another one! Of course all buses passing by were packed and now you have us trying to climb in and finding space. I managed with great difficulty as someone was kind enough to lend a hand with my suitcases! It was a nightmare!

For future travelling....I plan to buy a good backpack and consciously pack accordingly! "Pack half the clothes and carry twice the money" I aim to follow this going forward.

Coming to Kerala, I landed in Kochi (Cochin) and was off to Palamatam straight away. After a few days caught a Bus for Munnar to see the lovely tea estates. Then to Thekkady and Periyar for a couple of days before proceeding to Alleppey and Kumarakom. Thereafter took a really long bus trip down to Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum). The Kovalam Beach was not exactly what I expected it to be like but I just wish I had spent more time looking around. From here I travelled back to Kochi to see the city, look at the Chinese nets (see photo below) and finally headed to Kozhikode from where I took a flight back home.

2014 - Just realised January seems to be a favoured month for travelling/leisure. Is it because it's my Birthday month?! Ha ha!

This January I travelled to Yemen the mainland as well as to Socotra an island quite isolated and a third of its life plant is found nowhere else in the world. Here I digress....just a day before I flew to Yemen I conducted my first meet up for my company. It was a start.....again no regrets. I have learnt quite a bit since.

And in April, I took my first group to Socotra. The trip was a success if I may say so. Everything went off well. Inshallah there will be many more!

My 6 months celebration to the day when things started happening....not much of a celebration celebration but just remembering the day....the evening in Starbucks in Ibn Batuta hosting my first meetup, the drive, furious packing for my travel to Yemen the next day....thought I had it all. Some food, a glass of wine, watching movies on the telly and then I got a rude awakening!

It's 13 days since. Waiting for visas to be sorted out.....should be soon. Looking forward to working in a nice place....getting good vibes from a recent contact.

How does it get better than this? What else is possible? What is right about this I am not getting? All of life comes to me with ease, joy and glory.

Life goes on.....

My Day!

It's my Birthday....once again.  Day was stress free....No Boss and it's the start of the weekend! I wore my uber sexy heels from the Korean Designer Suecomma Bonnie who makes handmade shoes made from luxurious materials imported from Europe. "I don't know who invented high heels, but all women owe him a lot!"

Evening was fantastic....flowers, gift, cake and sumptous dinner....I had it all!

Last but not the least, thanks to "Facebook", I am overwhelmed with wishes!

Before Sunset

Just got to watch Before Sunset which was on tv. It's the sequel to the film Before Sunrise which was about a young man, Jesse (played by Ethan Hawke) and a woman, Celine (played by Julie Delpey) who meets on a train in Europe and ends up spending a romantic evening in Vienna. Now nine years later, Jesse is doing a Book Tour and comes to Paris where he encounters Celine again. Time is a constrain and in the short time they have, they try to catch up with what had happened in their lives since that night in Vienna.

Celine, "Memories are wonderful things if you do not have to deal with the past." Awesome.....just love this dialogue.

The end of the films makes one wonder whether Jesse stays or leaves.....

Jai Ho!

Finally got to watch "Slumdog Millionaire" a film so talked of....thanks to my Boss who downloaded & copied it for me on to a USB! Jai Ho!

This is a film about a young man from the slums of Mumbai who goes on to win the Indian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" He is arrested on the suspicipon of cheating in the show. While interrogating his life story is told and which in turn explains how he knew the answers to the questions. A film about money interwoven with love.

The film won 8 Oscars out of the 10 nominations. There has been some controversy about this film in India....about it's portrayal of India, Hinduism, persecution of Muslims as well as calling a slum dweller a Slumdog!

I liked the film...always for rags to riches romance! Always for the likes of Slumdogs....Underdogs....Jai Ho!

Poker Nights!

My evenings have been hectic.....these past few weeks! Received an invitation one fine day in the mail.....to come and play Poker. Since then I have been hooked to the game. Each game got me deeper and deeper into the game. No more hunger pangs I felt. Poker consumed my evenings and my weekends. I couldn't wait to get out of work and head to the Casino and to the next available Poker Table.

I had plenty of free drinks offered by total strangers and nuts & sushi too at the table. Some even bought me free entertainment....and I couldn't help but smile! I met guys who were not tight fisted.....and willing to lend chips to those who ran out! I even had some coming my way even though I never asked. Then there were these foul mouth men who rained obscenities but of couse all swear words were muffled immediately! I must say the security was good and they had some high tech gadgets in the casinos, overseeing all these!

I received plenty of Poker Buddy requests but only a few I have accepted. Its nice to see a nice familiar face at the table with whom you could chat on the side!

I called....I raised....I checked......and I folded!

I went all in....betted my way to success....won the pot with one pair of J's or K's and A kicker.....picked up a Straight.....a Flush.....It says, Getting the hand is luck... what you do with it is skill. Texas Hold 'Em is what I have been playing.........and I have been playing it online!

You

We connect
And we connect
Just so beautifully.

One day
You decide
To go away just.

Just as quickly
You go out of my life
You re-appear once again.

The spark still evident
The excitement not ebbed
The surprise still pleasant.

The reason...
You dont know
I don't know....

But then,
Not knowing....
Is reason.

Hey Baby!

Hey Baby!
You got me all wrapped....

When you came into my life,
I never thought I would feel it this way.
You know there's been nobody like you.
You take my blues away and make me laugh.

Hey Baby!
I may not be perfect....
But parts of me are excellent!
Don't let anybody and anything come in between us.

Hey Baby!
You're the best thing,
That has happened to me,
In a long long time...

Hey Baby! Hey Baby!

My Song!

One night
Late into the night
Words flowed smoothly
Like it was all meant to be.

A song that I knew already
Strangely but not so strangely
It was the first time that I heard.
A song that I just can't get out of my head.
A song which has become my mantra, My Song!

My Friend!

To do or not to do
To say or not to say
That is the question
Which weighs heavily
On my mind sometimes.

To do and pay the price or
Not to do and regret not having done.

To say and repent having said or
Not to say and rue why it wasn't said.

Decisions I must take
On a spur-of-the-moment
Which makes it more difficult.

Then again with a friend
I Should never ever
Have to regret or repent
What I do or say
No matter what happens.

Thats My Friend!

Reality bites

The voice drones.....
"Earth to Ms.H.
Ms.H, come in."

Who is calling?
Where am I?
My eyes flew wide open
I am falling and falling fast.
I hit plain dirt.....with a thud!
Ground reality hits me
And it hits me hard.

What was I thinking??!!

For a while, my feet had left ground
I was flying up in the sky.
Building castles in the air
How beautiful life could be....

Alas, no this was not meant to be.
Reality is but heat, dust, humidity & drudge
In a foreign land all alone.....

Ms.H?

Ms.H?
Uh...Yes? That's me.
How are you?
So far so good....
I could be better though!
Ha ha!

I could always be better!
I could for instance be marooned....
On an island...n
o office, no phone....
No emails, no deadlines....
Lying flat on the beach....
With a floppy hat and dark huge sunglasses.
A glass of those wonderful colored drinks with a lil umbrella on it...
And him as my own Personal Slave.....my beck & call!
Hmmm......that would be just Heaven!

Alone I am

Alone I came to this world, I know.....and alone I would leave this world, I know. All alone I would be.....this I didn’t know.

Growing up I was pretty much left alone reading, writing, painting, cycling, going for walks.... most of the time. Now as I go about earning my living, I continue with my reading, writing..... and shopping seems to have replaced most of the other creative activities I pursued as a young girl....once again all alone.

Pretty brave.....courageous.....is what I am often told, I am. Courage....I heard.... it’s something what we have to learn and we learn every day...it’s not what’s in you....it’s in every choice we make each and every day. I choose to do what I feel is right....I choose to do what my heart & soul believes in....and my choices makes me live all alone.....

Lately I have been wondering is this forever and how long will it be.....’cause one night is all it took.....one day and I was hooked....

More wine....Interested? Yes!

I seem to have made a faux pas.....ooops! that’ s what I thought and was thoroughly embarrassed. What would he think of me? I apologized immediately but he leaned towards me and said, "No "oops" necessary....it's very cool" and put me at ease right there. This was the start.....

The wine was heady......and into the night we chatted like old friends. It was either the wine or the fact that we were all alone drew us closer and closer. We chatted effortlessly. Anybody seeing the banter between us would think we have known each other for years while the reality was that we had just met. He was a Salesman and he totally sold himself to me! I lost count of time.......the wine was good and the company excellent.

We discovered the uncanny similarity not only in our names but in the way we felt about various issues not to mention our likes and dislikes. He sounded so familiar and I told him so. Have we met before, I asked him? He doesn't seem to recall but then how is it possible that he knows all these things about me? How does he know how I feel and how I am? How does he know what I like and don't like? How does he?

He is everything I would wish for in a friend! He is smart, honest and oh so adorable! He is a Dream? My Reality?.....I have yet to discover. Meanwhile, more wine.....Interested? Yes! I sure am!!

Just thinking....

The conversation continues in my mind.....do not understand certain things but then I was never that bright. "Enjoy the ride" someone says......

It is not the ride that I am having second thoughts......it's what happens next. Then again I wonder, how long is the ride going to last? Just the thought of the ride is making me heady....already. I would like that we stop and smell the roses when we tire and then continue together..... exploring new places.......watching people go by as the sun goes down......for ever and ever...

There are billions of people on this planet earth and it is just one person that I ask for.....why is it so difficult? Tell me why can't we be together?

Just thinking.....

déjà vu

Experiencing......déjà vu?

I get the uncanny feeling, I know you from somewhere.
Your voice sounds so familiar and I am so much at ease with you.
You know what I feel and you know what I like.
You complete my thoughts before I can put it into words.
Now that you are here, I want you to know everything about me.

Ooooh Baby! One night is all it took.
One click and I was hooked!
One call for me to see that
You're easily the one for me.
The One for me!

It is said that the feeling that one has been there before is often due to the fact that one has been there before. In our past lives did we know each other?!

If you love something....

Yes, I truly believe in...

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was. We do not possess anything in this world, least of all other people. We only imagine that we do. Our friends, our lovers, our spouses, even our children are not ours; they belong only to themselves. Possessive and controlling friendships and relationships can be as harmful as neglect.

The other night, I was chatting....chatting with a friend....having a rambling discussion about this and that. It would be nice to have someone who would be there for you....to ask how you were doing....and reassuring that everything was going to be alright....when things look bleak and my rose tinted glasses gets blurry. Yes, it would be nice....real nice.

However, I am never ever going to compel anyone into doing anything for me...being there for me....nor am I going to ask, ever. This should be because they want to....not because they have to. I am the kind who knowing a friend is torn between me and another would move away so that he can make his choice....without having him feel guilty.....

Yes, if you love...like...care....set it free....

A confession

I have a confession to make....brought on by the fact that I am perceived to be "hard to approach" by the guys.

I have suffered at the hands of that chubby little diaper-wearing fellow named Cupid in the past....with his stupid arrows. But, then life goes on....with or without.

Yes, I am wary but I can be easily charmed. I am not wearing a bullet-proof or should I say an arrow-proof vest....and I don't ever intend to wear one in the future! If I ever get struck by Cupid's arrow intentionally or by accident again, I hope the arrow this time is special. A special arrow which would make me sing...okay hum...can't sing for nuts!...dance... hmmm....again, I am not good in this though I love dancing....and make me smile for no reason!

I hope for Spring to come and Zhivago to meet up with Lara (Dr.Zhivago). I hope for Rick to say once more "Here's looking at you, kid" to Ilsa (Casablanca). I hope for Joe Bradley to meet Princess Ann again and take up from where they left (Roman Holiday).

There, I confessed....I confessed to being hopelessly romantic!

Guilty as charged!

Late ino the night.....

A love caught in the fire of Revolution.
In a land of guns and ice, there is the great sound of battle and the greater silence of lovers

Late into the night.......I stayed wide awake with Doctor Zhivago.

Doctor Zhivago
is a beautiful and moving film by David Lean based on a novel by the same name by Boris Pasternak. This is the story of a man and his mistress who together try to insulate their private lives from the chaos of the Russian Revolution. It is wistfully sad accentuating the beauty of life amidst the most bitter tragedy.

The film stars Omar Sharif as Doctor Zhivago, the Protagonist. Julie Christie plays Larissa Antipova (Lara) the mistress while Geraldine Chaplin plays Tonya, Zhivago's wife.

The film's theme music is hauntingly beautiful. It makes you wish for the Spring to come.....for all would be ok then.....perhaps?

On a lighter note, of the 105 Lara Poems by Doctor Zhivago , two of the best has been translated from Russian to English. They are beautiful....and I can not decide which is the best!

Lara No. 5

Lara
Lara Lara my Lara
Lara Lara Lara Lara
Lara
Lara Lara Lara
Lara!

Lara No. 79

Lara Lara Lara Lara
Lara my Lara my Lara
Lara Lara
Lara Lara Lara
Lara Lara Lara my Lara
Lara!
Lara! Lara!

Love is in the air!

Love is in the air
Everywhere I look around
Love is in the air
Every sight and every sound

And I don't know if I'm being foolish
Don't know if I'm being wise
But it's something that I must believe in....

I just read the front page on "Times of India".........How nice of India!

India willing to treat Bruni as 'first lady'
8 Jan 2008, 0000 hrs IST, TNN

NEW DELHI: India, it seems, feels it's for the French to decide what status should be accorded to supermodel-turned-singer Carla Bruni if she indeed comes visiting with French president Nicolas Sarkozy later this month.

Amid reports that Sarkozy (52) may tie the knot with Bruni (39) early next month, after some weeks of a highly-publicised courtship, with business often being mixed with pleasure during his foreign visits, an external affairs ministry official on Monday said, ''There will no protocol problems from our side if she comes.''

''It is for the French to decide whether she should be treated as the 'first lady' or not. If they so desire, she will be part of the ceremonial reception and other official functions,'' he said.

''But if the French tell us she is just a part of the official delegation, she will be treated as a simple delegate, without the privileges accorded to first ladies,'' he added.
